Park Rose Bird of Prey and Animal Centre were declared Winner of the Startup Business of the year for East Yorkshire and Humberside 2011.
The Birds of Prey Centre has taken huge strides over the course of 2011 and over the winter is undertaking a programme of refurbishment and improvement works.
We have enhanced the visitors experience by introducing Meerkats, pigs, goats and have recently acquired two new alpaca friends; Nuzzle and Scratch which are settling in well. We also have two new wallabies; these in addition to the extensive range of Birds of Prey and smaller animals to touch and stroke. All this set in 3.75 acres of attractive woodland.
All of the animals are loved and well cared for and can be easily watched and in some cases fed by visitors.
Not only have we been working on the experience but also on the attractions for school days out. We have finalized a programme for school visits to satisfy elements of the national curriculum.
What are we offering?
We offer a great day of fun and education for children and adults at a competitive rate. Visits can also be tailored to suit the needs of the school.
Key Stage 1
Upon arrival each child will be provided with clip board and pencil.
Children will be guided around the park and asked to provide tick box answers to particular questions which are asked on the sheets. An emphasis will be placed upon the distinction between living and non-living.
Children will also be asked about how plants and animals differ noting that animals have eyes, ears, mouths and noses and can sense what they are doing. This will neatly be used to discuss the 5 senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch during a Birds of Prey Display.
The display which is really fun involves audience participation with birds diving and swooping after food. The display will at the same time reinforce the topics above. How do the birds know where the food is? How do they find food in the wild? What do they eat?
Key Stage 2
Upon arrival each child will be provided with clip board and pencil.
Children will be guided around the park and asked to provide tick box answers to particular questions which are asked on the sheets. These will discuss nutrition and how animal are adapted to find the foods they need to survive. These include such things as the positioning of the eyes and ears and size of the teeth. Depending on the way the animals live; their skeletons are different being designed to support and protect their bodies and help them move in different ways.
The display will show how the birds use their specialized feature to find the meat and catch it. The effect of the flying on the heart rate and the increased use of energy when “exercising”.
